Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the fundamentals
    • Have a good knowledge and understanding of the basic principles of physics and of the role of models and theories.
    • Undertake further study having already acquired and enhanced the necessary learning skills
  • Provide clear and accurate information
    • Communicate complex information to a qualified scientific partner
  • Have a rigorous scientific approach
    • Solve simple problems in the context of physics by identifying their basic aspects and by using both appropriate theoretical and experimental methods

Learning Outcomes of UE

The general objective of this course  is to teach the students how to understand or describe the macroscopic properties of material, starting  from the classic interactions between atoms.

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

This unit consists of a learning activity called statistical physics which consists of lessons of theory and lessons of exercises. The program will consist of: foundations of Statistical Physics; equilibrium statistical ensembles (microcanonical, canonical, grand-canonical); the concept of entropy; ideal gases of atoms and molecules; ideal quantum gases of bosons and fermions; introduction to phase transitions and irreversible processes.
