• 1. Pharmaceutical expertise: Use a foundation of concepts and knowledge in health sciences and pharmaceutical sciences.
• Understand and integrate the fundamental sciences (chemistry, physics, biology, botany) involved in the specific fields of pharmaceutical sciences
• Understand compounds for pharmaceutical application regarding their chemical structures, their structure-activity relationships, their physicochemical properties, their origins (synthetic, semi-synthetic, natural), their analytical control methods and their areas of use from a therapeutic point of view.

Learning Outcomes of UE

In this first part of the course, the UE addresses the issue of natural products with the aim of providing the future Pharmacist with general conceptual skills that will enable him/her : to analyze the structure of new complex molecules to place them in a context of known biosynthetic structures or pathways. to relate the structures, the pharmacological activities and the traditional use of medicinal plants; to understand the methods of analysis described in the Pharmacopoeia monographs. This UE will be continued in Part II (Pharmacognosy II: Phytochemistry and study of drugs of plant origin - UM-B3-PHARMA-005-M)

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

The UE develops strong foundations of phytochemistry, supported by the study of active components biosyntheses; the analytical and pharmacological aspects are also deepened for the natural compounds which do not have an equivalent in traditional drugs.
