Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Mobilise a structured set of scientific knowledge and skills and specialised techniques in order to carry out computer and management engineering missions, using their expertise and adaptability.
    • Master and appropriately mobilise knowledge, models, methods and techniques specific to computer management engineering.
    • Identify and discuss possible applications of new and emerging technologies in the field of information technology and sciences and quantifying and qualifying business management.
  • Communicate and exchange information in a structured way - orally, graphically and in writing, in French and in one or more other languages - scientifically, culturally, technically and interpersonally, by adapting to the intended purpose and the relevant public.
    • Argue to and persuade customers, teachers and boards, both orally and in writing.
    • Select and use the written and oral communication methods and materials adapted to the intended purpose and the relevant public.
  • Mobilise a structured set of scientific knowledge and skills and specialised techniques in order to carry out computer and management engineering missions, with a focus on Innovation and Information Systems, using their expertise and adaptability.
    • Master and appropriately mobilise knowledge, models, methods and techniques related to the improvement of decision and management processes, mastery of mathematical modelling and optimisation algorithms, analysis of large volumes of data, mastery of Web and multimedia tools, design and operation of distributed and mobile computing systems, management of a software project, innovative management of a company and/or project team, information systems (data mining, database, cloud computing, etc.) and management of technological innovation.

Learning Outcomes of UE

CAN
Understand the status of the current telecommunication industry; To set qualitatively the role of each element in the global transmission chain; To identify the perturbators sources (channel, noises, distortions); to estimate and compare the different modulation (analogue and digital) and coding options in a concrete case;  to acquire a long lasting 'telecommunication spirit' and orders of magnitude.
RI
- identify the various components of a network;
- understand the role and operation of each element and evaluate their advantages and limitations;
- understand the advantage of the various tools available for the analysis of the networks performances.

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

CAN
Telecommunications introduction; Constitutive elements of a transmission chain; Analogue telecommunications; Baseband or bandpass digital telecommunications; channel capacity; Multiplexing
RI
- Architecture of commutation networks (paquet switching versus circuit switching); Internet.
- Applications protocols (HTTP, DNS, DHCP, ...).
- Transport protocol ; UDP ; TCP.
- Interconnexion: IP & ICMP, routing protocols, MPLS;
- Data link: LAN (802.3, 802.2, 802.11, switches), WAN, point-to-point link

Prior Experience

Type(s) and mode(s) of Q2 UE assessment

  • Written examination - Face-to-face
  • Production (written work, report, essay, collection, product, etc.) - To be submitted in class
  • Oral examination - Face-to-face

Q2 UE Assessment Comments

- RI quotation: The evaluation procedure will be detailed in the first sessions of the AA.
- CAN quotation:  Written exam (theory + exercises + laboratory technical content): 85%; Laboratories report: 15%.

Method of calculating the overall mark for the Q2 UE assessment

Final UE quotation : if the student has a quotation equal or under 7/20 for one of the AAs constituting  the UE, the final UE quotation will be equal to the lowest quotation obtained. Otherwise, the final UE quotation will be established proportionally to the AA's corresponding credits.

Type(s) and mode(s) of Q3 UE assessment

  • Written examination - Face-to-face
  • Oral examination - Face-to-face

Q3 UE Assessment Comments

-  RI quotation : The evaluation procedure will be detailed in the first sessions of the AA.
- CAN quotation : Written exam (theory + exercises + laboratories technical contents) : 100%. All previously acquired grades are not taken into account.

Method of calculating the overall mark for the Q3 UE assessment

Final UE quotation : if the student has a quotation equal or under 7/20 for one of the AAs constituting  the UE, the final UE quotation will be equal to the lowest quotation obtained. Otherwise, the final UE quotation will be established proportionally to the AA's corresponding credits.
