Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes of UE
Impart a practical skill in manufacturing processes, 3D solid modelling, mechanical drafting and dimensional metrology through the in-depth study of the manufacture of a mechanical part.
Select and define manufacturing processes, process plans and operating parameters; design molds and manufacturing tools.
Choose a material based on manufacturing constraints.
Recognize and solve problems.
Perform a literature search, use available resources and identify the sources of relevant information.
Take responsibility, make decisions and justify them.
Set priorities and manage their own time to meet dead lines.
Present and justify their own work.
Communicate effectively in a jury situation.
In depth understanding of the working principle of a four stroke internal combustion engine.
Visualize, understand and describe the working principles of the main components of a recent compressed ignition internal combustion engine (including turbo compressor, common rail, EGR vane, injection pump...).
Understand the design principles of various engine components by analyzing them.
Learn how to handle in an appropriate way the different specific tools dedicated to mount or unmount a complex mechanism. Demonstrate self-awareness, asses themself, and develop appropriate learning strategies.
Direct their choice of modules within their degree programme in order to develop a career plan in line with the realities in the field and their profile (aspirations, strengths, weaknesses, etc.)
Develop their scientific curiosity and open-mindedness

I-GRME-031 | Preliminary report and technical drawings are evaluated for 15% of the final mark. They are provided on the last session of the project at the schedule during the 7th week of the project (unless otherwise posted ruleson Moodle). That file includes the work carried out during the 1st step of the project, unless specifically requested. For each manufacturing process, a set of requirements, defined at the beginning of the project, must be defined for the preliminary report. If this is missing, an exclusion mark will be applied for both sessions. A panel of the members of the Machine Design and Production Engineering Lab evaluates the work after presentation and oral defence of the project for 85% of the final mark. The oral defence lasts approximatively 20 minutes: 10 minutes maximum for the presentation and about 10 minutes for questions and answers. The jury has evaluated the file before the presentation and takes into account the student's attitude and competences during the project. Each student provides a file on the last session of project at the schedule (unless otherwise posted rules on Moodle). That file includes: a copy of the final technical drawings, two copies of the final report, preliminary drawings and report and the evaluation form of the preliminary file. Unless specifically requested, the final report contains all the work carried out during the two steps of the project, as well as a description of their bibliographical research and a report on the industry tour and any other specific useful information. CAM files for the projects dealing with machining will be sent to the supervisors according to the procedure transmitted to the students (typically: by email for 23h30 on the day the file is provided). Following the presentation, the student provides a USB key with all the SolidWorks files, the written report and the presentation (plus any other useful documents: Mastercam files, pictures taken during the industry tour, references,...). Its structure will be in accordance with that specified in a document available on Moodle. |
I-GRME-131 | Compulsory presence |
I-POLY-030 | Participation is mandatory as well as writing a report and taking part in an interview. The Learning Activity is validated or not on base of the report and the interview. This decision is passed on to the holder of the project of concerned BAB3. |
