Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes of UE
Know the physical concepts such as surface and interfacial tensions, contact angle, wettability, mechanical and thermodynamic equilibria of an interface ; to understand, master and apply these concepts for concrete applications : minerals treatment, surfactants, characterization of micro and nanoporous materials ; to develop the insight and the physical meaning of the surface phenomena. Take the time into account when describing a reactional process ; Understand how molecular dynamics acts upon the chemical reactions kinetics ; Understand the fundamental principles and mechanisms of catalysis ; Identify the industrial constraints and take them into account in the preparation and forming of solid catalysts.
UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance
Surface physicochemistry : surface and interfacial tensions ; adhesion and liquid cohesion ; liquid/liquid inteface ; solid surfaces (contact angle, equilibrium equation, wettability, adhesion and cohesion) ; detergency ; interface equilibrium (Laplace and Kelvin) ; relative adsorption and Gibbs-Duhem equation ; applications : surfactants, divided solids, colloidal systems, mineral flotation. Kinetics and Catalysis : Reactional order ; reactional mechanism ; complex reaction ; chain reaction ; kinetic theories ; diffusion ; homogeneous catalysis ; heterogeneous catalysis ; chimisorption ; photocatalysis ; diffusion-reaction coupling ; solvent effects.

I-SDMA-004 | Practical work, 25 % of the mark. Written examination, 25 % of the mark, maximal duration : 120 min (with notes ; only exercises). Oral examination, 50 % of the mark, maximal duration : 90 min (with a prior written preparation (about 30 min) on transparent slides that the student will present afterwards). The overall mark of the course (i.e. AA) will be calculated by a weighted GEOMETRIC mean of the different marks. |
