Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Implement an engineering approach dealing with a set problem taking into account technical, economic and environmental constraints
    • Identify and acquire the information and skills needed to solve the problem
  • Understand the theoretical and methodological fundamentals in science and engineering to solve problems involving these disciplines
    • Identify, describe and explain basic scientific and mathematical principles
    • Identify, describe and explain the basic principles of engineering particularly in their specialising field
    • Understand laboratory techniques: testing, measuring, monitoring protocol, and security
    • Select and rigorously apply knowledge, tools and methods in sciences and engineering to solve problems involving these disciplines
  • Communicate in a structured way - both orally and in writing, in French and English - giving clear, accurate, reasoned information
    • Use several methods of written and graphic communication: text, tables, equations, sketches, maps, graphs, etc.
    • Present analysis or experiment results in laboratory reports
  • Demonstrate thoroughness and independence throughout their studies
    • Develop their scientific curiosity and open-mindedness
    • Learn to use various resources made available to inform and train independently

Learning Outcomes of UE

- Explain the fundamental concepts of general chemistry, with the required rigour, and be able to apply them to concrete problems.
- Show the importance of chemistry in everyday life and in industry.
- Understand the environment in its chemical aspects.
- Solve practical problems involving transformations of the matter, understand the consequences of the hypotheses and challenge them if necessary.

I-ULBC-004
I-ULBC-005The mark for the second quadrimester counts for seventy-five percent of the final mark. It consists of the evaluation of practical laboratory work (for one seventh) and the oral examination (for six sevenths).
The evaluation of practical laboratory work corresponds to the arithmetic average of the mark obtained at each of the four practical work sessions; each session being scored on the basis of the student's activity during the session, a brief report submitted at the end of the session, the accuracy and precision of the results obtained, and, eventually, a brief oral test during the session, about the manipulation.
From one academic year to another, the lab mark previously obtained by a student may possibly be transferred to the current year, at the express request of this student, sent by e-mail to the course teacher before the start of the second quadrimester; the transfer being granted only if the mark is higher than 16/20. No other mark will be subject to any transfer from one academic year to another.

I-ULBC-004The Q3 oral examination relative to the first quadrimester is subject to the same conditions as the original Q1 examination, and concerns the same subject.
I-ULBC-005The Q3 oral examination relative to the second quadrimester is subject to the same conditions as the original Q2 examination and concerns the same subject. In case of failure in the overall mark in June and in the Q2 mark, the mark for laboratory work is transferred into Q3 mark if this laboratory mark is greater than 12/20. It is then worth one seventh (1/7) of the Q3 mark if only the second learning activity is re-evaluated in Q3, and for three twenty- eighths (3/28) of the Q3 mark if the whole teaching unit is re-evaluated in Q3. However, in derogation from this rule, in order to always benefit the student, the mark of the practical work is not transferred if the result of the Q3 evaluation for the second quadrimester exceeds this mark.
