Content of Learning Activity
The basis of surface and interface science is to try to improve and control certain physical and chemical properties of a material by structurally modifying it or covering it with a (very) thin film, thus altering the few atomic layers in contact with the environment. Understanding the behavior of these surfaces requires two types of expertise, which are, on the one hand, the treatment of surfaces and interfaces, and, on the other hand, the characterization of surfaces and interfaces from the nanometer to the micrometer. In this learning activity, through a prior theoretical description of the operating principles, a set of experimental techniques (most of which will be the subject of practical work), will allow students to become familiar with these methods of characterization.
