Learning Outcomes of UE

During this seminar, students learn to monopolise the concepts and tools of labour economics analysis, and to use them to address a current issue related to wage determination. They also learn to develop a rigorous and argued approach to propose economic policy measures in relation to the topic.

Content of UE

In groups, students deal with a topic related to wage determination (wage bargaining, wage determination at the firm level, wage discrimination, etc.).
They use recommended references and carry out additional bibliographical research, in order to produce a piece of work that enables them to address three questions. How does the subject look like, can it be understood (what are the economic mechanisms at work)? What about the Belgian and/or European situation? What economic policies could be suggested (at Belgian and/or European level)?
Written work is produced, presented orally and discussed.
