Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Implement an academic view on knowledge, particularly through the mastery of methods and literature research tools.
    • Understand, synthesise and discuss complex information and texts on economics and management.
    • Develop and structure reasoning by basing it on suitable scientific arguments
  • Actively master the fundamental concepts and models of economic sciences and management sciences
    • Understand the methods and tools adapted to the field of economics and management
  • Acquire basic methodological tools necessary for scientific inquiry in the field of economics and management.
    • Describe the principles of methodological approaches (objectives, methods, techniques and tools) to understand and explain the functioning of organisations and markets.
  • Critically compare knowledge acquired to real situations.
    • Demonstrate an acute sense of analysis, criticism and ethics in relation to various issues in economics and management.

Learning Outcomes of UE

After this course, students will be able to :
- represent and analyse a set of statistical data,
- master the bases of probability theory.

Content of UE

DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS (1st QUARTER)
One-dimension descriptive statistics : tables and diagrams of frequencies; position and dispersion parameters of a frequencies distribution. Two-dimensions descriptive statistics : regression and correlation.

PROBABILITY THEORY (2nd QUARTER)
Random experiments and events. The different approaches of the concept of probability. Random variables and distribution of probability. Particular distributions. Mathematical expectation and variance. Independance of random variables. Some fundamental theorems.

Type of Assessment for UE in Q1

  • Oral examination
  • Written examination

Method of calculating the overall mark for the Q1 UE assessment

Not applicable at this stage.

Q1 UE Assessment Comments

This assessment test in Q1 (written examination) concerns the part "Descriptive statistics" (the score is denoted SD1).

Evaluation is based on a written examination (100%).
Only in situations where a student has to take two exams at the same time, an oral examination could be envisaged.

Type of Assessment for UE in Q2

  • Oral Examination
  • Written examination

Method of calculating the overall mark for the Q2 UE assessment

- If SD1 is equal to or greater than 10/20 and the student wishes to keep this grade, the global score for the programme component is calculated as follows :
global score = 0.5 * SD1 + 0.5 * CP1.

- If SD1 is lower than 10/20 OR if SD1 is equal to or greater than 10/20 and that the student does not wish to keep it, the global score for the programme component is calculated as follows:
global score = 0.5 * SD2 + 0.5 * CP1.

Q2 UE Assessment Comments

- If SD1 is equal to or greater than 10/20, SD1 can be kept and this assessment test in Q2 (written examination) only concerns the part "Probability theory"  (the obtained score is denoted CP1 ). The global score for the programme component is calculated as follows : global score = 0.5 * SD1 + 0.5 * CP1.

- If SD1 is lower than 10/20 OR if SD1 is equal to or greater than 10/20 and that the student does not wish to keep it, this assessment test in Q2 (written examination) concerns the WHOLE content of the programme component "Statistics 1", that is to say the two parts "Descriptive statistics" (the score obtained for the part "Descriptive statistics" is denoted SD2) and "Probability theory" (the score obtained for this part is denoted CP1).

Evaluation is based on a written examination (100%).
Only in situations where a student has to take two exams at the same time, an oral examination could be envisaged.

Type of Assessment for UE in Q3

  • Oral examination
  • Written examination

Method of calculating the overall mark for the Q3 UE assessment

The global score for the programme component is calculated as follows :
global score = 0.5 * SD3 + 0.5 * CP2.

If the student has obtained a score equal to or greater than 10/20 for the part "Descriptive statistics" or "Probability theory" at the assessment tests in Q1 or Q2, this score can be kept and be taken into account in the above computation of the global score (the student in that case does not present anymore the part for which he has obtained the score equal to or greater than 10/20).

Q3 UE Assessment Comments

This assessment test in Q3 (written examination) concerns the WHOLE content of the programme component "Statistics 1", that is to say the two parts "Descriptive statistics" (the score obtained for this part is denoted SD3) and "Probability theory" (the score obtained for the part "Probability theory" is denoted CP2).

Evaluation is based on a written examination (100%).
Only in situations where a student has to take two exams at the same time, an oral examination could be envisaged.
