Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the fundamentals
    • Provide basic knowledge in more specialised fields of chemistry (e.g. in theoretical chemistry, chemistry of materials, macromolecular chemistry)
  • Have a rigorous scientific approach
    • Have integrated theoretical and/or practical skills during an introductory training session on scientific research

Learning Outcomes of UE

- basic wave mechanics
- basic special relativity (relativistic kinematics and dynamics)
- basic analytical mechanics needed for QM
- understanding of QM basic postulates
- computation of energy levels and wave function, from Schrödinger equation, for simple potentials : square, harmonic oscillator, central (hydrogen atom) , ...

Content of UE

COURSE : Special relativity, analytical mechanics and quantum mechanics
- Lorentz transformations, energy, mass, relativistic invariants
- Lagrange and Hamilton equations
- Schrödinger equation
- statistical interpretation and basic postulates of QM
- applications: square well, harmonic oscillator, central potential (H atom), potential barrier (tunnel effect), ..
LABO :
oscillations, standing waves, interferences, diffraction, visible spectroscopy, measurement of physical constants
