      Content of Learning Activity

      The aim of the course is twofold: 1) to deepen the reflection on (mainly French) retranslations of literary works; 2) to offer an introduction to the question of intersemiotic translation as a factor to be taken into account in the study of a retranslation. 
      Retranslation has been the subject of increasing interest in translation studies since 2000. Indeed, translations age, as they remain linked to the language, culture, linguistic and literary models and ideology of their time. Hence the need for new translations. 
      R. Jakobson defines intersemiotic translation as "the interpretation of linguistic signs by means of non-linguistic sign systems". For example, the translation of a verbal system into a non-verbal system and vice versa. From a methodological point of view, we can thus include intersemiotic translation in the general description of the translation process.
