Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes of UE
At the end of the course, the students will be able to identify the different forms of corrosion of metallic substrates; interpret the Pourbaix Diagrams; know the kinetics laws of corrosion ; know the different experimental methods used to characterize the corrosion phenomena at the industrial and R&D scales and their limitations ; know the different protection modes; know the different steps needed for a good surface preparation before surface treatments, to choose the most appropriate surface treatment to protect metallic substrates against corrosion, identify the risks of the chosen solutions for the environment and safety
Content of UE
Potential-pH diagrams ; Corrosion kinetics ; influence of oxidizing ability and conductivity of the electrolyte ; Different forms of corrosion and characteristics ; Evans diagrams (Multielectrodes theory) ; passivity and its properties ; pitting corrosion ; intergranular corrosion; charaterization by electrochemical techniques ; ageing tests ; Surface preparation : degreasing and etching ; chemical conversion; organic coatings and application processes ; anodizing; galvanization.
