Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Describe, organise, analyse and prioritise the phenomena observed in the medical field
    • Understand the expression of biological realities in absolute or relative terms, the orders of magnitude, proportions and probability
    • Understand the chronology of a phenomenon and master the time scales and their representations
  • Control the molecular, morphological and functional approaches of normal and pathological conditions
    • Describe these states and technical examinations to quantify them in different approaches, as well as describe the operational characteristics of these examinations
    • Integrate concepts from these different approaches in a complex biomedical problem
    • Explain the relationships between molecular, morphological and functional changes and pathological conditions, their clinical signs and symptoms
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills developed within a medical context
    • Understand the basic rules of French and of English (grammar, punctuation, connectors, etc.).
    • Use a rich vocabulary accurately linking concepts and words, and understand the prefixes and suffixes used in the medical field
    • Adapt lexical and syntactic choices in communication register (everyday language, medical language or scientific terminology)
    • Summarise, explain, and argue
    • Work in a team
  • Develop reasoning skills
    • Understand and apply the basic principles of reasoning (obtaining data, analysis, synthesis, comparison, the rule of three, syllogism, analogy, Boolean logic, etc.)
    • Understand and apply Bayesian inference
    • Develop critical thinking, test and monitor conclusions understanding the domain of validity, and explore alternative hypotheses
    • Integrate reasoning in clinical approaches
  • Manage resources
    • Prioritise
  • Promote health
    • Understand a global approach to health incorporating prevention and screening
    • Identify community health problems in the various teachings
  • Manage their studies
    • Have developed an interest for medicine
    • Locate scientific information efficiently
    • Read, interpret, and critique a scientific article
    • Compare different sources of information
  • Be a responsible practitioner
    • Base reasoning on the data taken from scientific literature (evidence-based-medicine)

Learning Outcomes of UE

During this apprenticeship, the student will develop an in-depth knowledge of both bacterial and viral pathogens involved in human infections as well as a good knowledge of prevention and infection control basics.

Content of UE

This UE is composed of one theoritical part divided in three main sections:
1/ Prevention and Infection control
2/ Clinically important bacteria
3/ Clinically important viruses
Practical works illustrate the theory.

Prior Experience

M-DOYM-014: Microbiologie générale et médicale: introduction, basics in Immunology and Biology.

Type of Assessment for UE in Q2

  • Presentation and/or works
  • Written examination

Q2 UE Assessment Comments

Multiple choice questionnaire, one-answer allowed, no minus points (theoritical part).
Interactive classes with exercices and/or an oral or written presentation  (practical works by groups, attendance is mandatory, these sessions represent 10% of the final mark).

Type of Assessment for UE in Q3

  • Written examination

Q3 UE Assessment Comments

Multiple choice questionnaire, one-answer allowed, no minus points (theoritical part).
The mark obtained during the practical sessions still counts for 10% of the final mark (practical mark is transferred from Q2 to Q3; ! not from an academic year to another !).
