Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes
- 1. Pharmaceutical expertise: Use a foundation of concepts and knowledge in health sciences and pharmaceutical sciences.
- Understand and integrate the fundamental sciences (chemistry, physics, biology, botany) involved in the specific fields of pharmaceutical sciences
- Understand and apply mathematical translations of large models and chemical and/or biological phenomena through abstract reasoning
- Understand and use different graphical representations of numerical values and their relationships
- Perceive spatial distribution, and understand two- and three-dimensional representations and interconvert them
- Understand the chronology of a phenomenon and master the time scales and their representations
- Understand how the human body works by using knowledge of anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, immunology, microbiology and pathology under the dual approach of normal and pathological conditions in order to understand the action of medications on the body.
- Understand the basic concepts of pharmacology and pharmacokinetics
- Understand compounds for pharmaceutical application regarding their chemical structures, their structure-activity relationships, their physicochemical properties, their origins (synthetic, semi-synthetic, natural), their analytical control methods and their areas of use from a therapeutic point of view.
- 2. Scientific method: Solve pharmaceutical problems using their knowledge and critical mind.
- Understand and apply the basic principles of reasoning (obtaining data, analysis, synthesis, comparison, the rule of three, syllogism, analogy, Boolean logic, etc.)
- Understand and use statistical methods
- Use a hypothesis in inductive, deductive or abductive reasoning
- Develop a critical, practical and analytical mind
- Manage doubt and uncertainty
- Develop and rigorously manage an experimental protocol (from information gathering to the production, interpretation and presentation of results).
- 3. Communication: Communicate in an appropriate, efficient, rigorous and respectful way in a professional perspective.
- Understand the basic rules of French and of English (grammar, punctuation, connectors, etc.).
- Use a rich vocabulary linking concepts and words accurately
- Adapt lexical and syntactic choices in communication register (everyday language, medical language or scientific terminology)
- Summarise, explain, and argue
- Listen and empathise
- Work in a team
- Implement ICT in an appropriate manner
- Share knowledge and information
- 4. Sense of responsibility: Act ethically and professionally.
- Understand a global approach to health incorporating prevention and screening
- Identify community health problems in the various teachings
- Understand the concepts underlying health education
- Be aware of the concept of "pharmaceutical care"
- Base their reasoning on the data from the scientific literature
- Understand and respect the limits of their field of activity
- Respect the diversity of gender, culture and opinion
- Show loyalty and scientific honesty (in teamwork and in respecting the results and the work of others)
- 5. Quality: Assess themself, expand their knowledge and adapt their attitude.
- Manage time
- Prioritise
- Understand the organisation of the health system and its social dimension
- Integrate an economic dimension in their pharmaceutical practice
- Be aware of the concepts of good business practices and quality management.
- Have developed an interest in the medical-pharmaceutical field
- Locate scientific information efficiently
- Research, read, interpret, and critique a scientific paper with sufficient knowledge of scientific English
- Compare different sources of information
Learning Outcomes of UE
The course of Human Biology will tend to supply basics in the field of Diversity of Life, Biochemistry, Evolution, Cytology and Genetic. The students will build the frame of knowledge in biology to understanding more specialized courses which they will encompass in the future (like histology, physiology, anatomy). In a more general view, the main objectives of this course are to develop observation and analytical skills, to learn a scientific working method and to be able to synthetize some information for applying their logic in a wide range of contexts.
Content of UE
1. Theoretical course (60h) Tome I: The characteristics of living, Cytology, Biochemistry of the cell, Bacteria and Viruses, Protists, Fungi, Plants and Animals; Man, tissues, organs and their functions, Nutrition and Reproduction; Heredity and Genetics, Diseases and Immune System 2
2. Practicals (8h)
Prior Experience
Written examination and/or e-test on the theoretical course (90% of the final grade)
Written and/or e-Test on practical work (10% of the final grade)
