Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes of UE
- Explain the fundamental concepts of general chemistry, with the required rigour, and be able to apply them to concrete problems.
- Show the importance of chemistry in everyday life and in industry.
- Understand the environment in its chemical aspects.
- Solve practical problems involving transformations of the matter, understand the consequences of the hypotheses and challenge them if necessary.
Content of UE
- Atomic and molecular chemistry, including quantum aspects.
- Organic chemistry.
- Chemical kinetics.
- Chemical reactions and equilibria (acid-base, precipitation and dissolution, oxidation-reduction, etc.).
- Chemical thermodynamics.
- States of matter.
- Chemistry of mixtures and solutions.
- Electrochemistry.
- Environmental chemistry and examples of industrial applications.

Type of Assessment for UE in Q1
Q1 UE Assessment Comments
Written examination (theory + exercises) corresponding to the subject studied in the first quadrimester, counting for twenty-five percent of the final mark.
Type of Assessment for UE in Q2
Q2 UE Assessment Comments
The mark for the second quadrimester counts for seventy-five percent of the final mark. It consists of the evaluation of practical laboratory work (for a seventh), the written examination (mainly exercise-based, counting for three sevenths) and the oral examination (mainly based on theory, counting for three sevenths).
The evaluation of practical laboratory work corresponds to the arithmetic average of the mark obtained at each of the four practical work sessions; each session being scored on the basis of the student's activity during the session, a brief report submitted at the end of the session, the accuracy and precision of the results obtained, and, eventually, a brief oral test during the session, about the manipulation.
Type of Assessment for UE in Q3
Q3 UE Assessment Comments
The written examination (mainly focused on the exercises) and the oral examination (mainly focused on the theory) are worth the same weight in the mark of the third quadrimester (Q3).
In case of failure in the overall mark in June and in the Q2 mark, the mark for laboratory work is transferred into Q3 mark if this laboratory mark is greater than 12/20. It is then worth one seventh (1/7) of the Q3 mark if only the second learning activity is re-evaluated in Q3, and for three twenty-eighths (3/28) of the Q3 mark if the whole teaching unit is re-evaluated in Q3. However, in derogation from this rule, in order to always benefit the student, the mark of the practical work is not transferred if the result of the Q3 evaluation exceeds this mark.
Type of Resit Assessment for UE in Q1 (BAB1)
Q1 UE Resit Assessment Comments (BAB1)
The Q1 remedial written examination is subject to the same conditions as the original Q1 examination, and concerns the same subject. Its mark replaces the result obtained at the end of Q1, even if the new mark is lower.
