Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes of UE
At the end of the course, students should be able to understand and explain the main theories of communication, put them into context and discuss their evolution.
Content of UE
The course Théories de la communication is aimed at students starting a Bachelor's degree in Humanities and Social Sciences. Its objective is to apprehend communication as an object of study in the social sciences, through its main definitions and approaches. The course analyses the main theoretical currents and postures that have marked the study of interpersonal and mass communication since the beginning of the 20th century. The behaviourist approach, functionalist theories, mathematical communication theory and the orchestral model of communication are some of the theoretical reference points discussed. The course seeks to highlight the links between the theories of communication and the economic, cultural, ideological or scientific contexts in which they have taken place.
