Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Acquire the basic knowledge to understand the legal mechanisms in order to understand the concepts, techniques and terminology to express a rigorous legal thought
    • Understand the organisation of powers to identify institutions and sources of law
    • Develop appropriate strategies to systematically update their legal knowledge
  • Use language as a tool of legal thinking to understand the concepts, techniques and terminology to express a rigorous legal thought
    • Choose appropriate and accurate legal terminology according to the context
    • Express thoughts constructively and rigorously
    • Understand referencing rules for documentary sources
  • Transform a legal issue in order to apply a pragmatic approach of the law to resolve specific issues
    • Understand legal research tools and techniques for effective reading
    • Identify and define the sources of law to consider the facts and determine the areas of work to be developed
  • Implement the various techniques of interpretation and argumentation in order to apply a pragmatic approach of the law to solve specific issues
    • Weigh up the importance given to each source

Learning Outcomes of UE

Upon completion of this teaching unit, students will be able to work their way through a law Library, look for sources and write references that are compliant to current standards. They will be able to process information from legal texts, extract the main ideas, organize them, and properly define concepts of Law or in link with legal sciences. They will also be able to clearly state facts and properly synthesize in writing the information that they accessed.

Content of UE

First term: Part 1: introduction to the operation of a Library and to referencing tools for sources of Law. Part 2:developing methodological Tools in link with the legal and judicial worlds; information handling, texts analysis, awareness of legal terms accuracy. Second term: Part 1: introduction to databases and search engines Part 2: texts analysis and step-by-step development of a practical case, resulting in the writing of writing of pleadings and to the making of a moot court (role play)
