Programme component

Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Understand language of instruction and foreign languages (language skills)
    • Use French perfectly in a variety of non-technical situations, both orally and in writing
    • Communicate easily and adequately, in both selected foreign languages, at a minimum level of B2 in line with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
  • Understand and integrate cultural similarities and differences (cultural and intercultural skills)
    • Demonstrate real knowledge of the cultures of the studied languages
    • Identify cultural differences and talk about them
    • Be familiar with codes and conventions of other cultures for the sake of interpersonal relationships
    • Develop knowledge in various fields, in particular those aimed at by translation activities
  • Use lexicographical resources and reference materials to lead linguistic mediation activities individually or as part of a team (professional skills)
    • Reformulate, summarise, translate or interpret a document of general interest written or presented orally in a foreign language into French

Learning Outcomes of UE

Students will be able to:
- understand a French speech and pick up on the structure after hearing the speech for the first time;
- Reformulate the speech in correct, natural Dutch, avoiding literal translations, after having quickly researched the subject and terminology;
- describe and justify strategies employed.

Content of UE

Consecutive interpretation, into the foreign language, of speeches of varying lengths and of a fairly low degree of specialisation.
Exercises based on non-prepared speeches, freely-rendered written texts or recordings of original speeches.
