Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Understand language of instruction and foreign languages (language skills)
    • Use French perfectly in a variety of non-technical situations, both orally and in writing
    • Understand, reformulate and summarise documents and presentations, in French, on various topics written by experts, including those related to current affairs
  • Understand and integrate cultural similarities and differences (cultural and intercultural skills)
    • Demonstrate real knowledge of the cultures of the studied languages
    • Identify cultural differences and talk about them
    • Be familiar with codes and conventions of other cultures for the sake of interpersonal relationships
    • Develop knowledge in various fields, in particular those aimed at by translation activities
  • Use everyday technology (technological skills)
    • Use standard office software tools and editorial assistance effectively
  • Use lexicographical resources and reference materials to lead linguistic mediation activities individually or as part of a team (professional skills)
    • Use printed or electronic dictionaries and reference materials appropriately
    • Reformulate, summarise, translate or interpret a document of general interest written or presented orally in a foreign language into French
  • Conduct relevant research and report on it in a critical manner (cognitive skills)
    • Conduct targeted and reasoned documentary research in both the core language and the foreign languages studied
    • Assess the relevance and reliability of documentary sources used
    • Give a critique of the studied literature

Learning Outcomes of UE

T-ITAL-503 General Translation from the Foreign Language into French (part b) : At the end of the first block of the master in translation or interpreting, students will be able to: - understand the challenges of general translation and do the necessary research to solve those challenges; - translate general texts in written and with a high degree of precision, in a correct French and in the appropriate style; - translate and/or summarize general texts orally, without any mistranslations and at the normal rhythm of speech delivery.  T-ITAL-506 Specialised Translation from the Foreign Language into French (part b) : At the end of the first block of the master in translation, students should be able to: -understand specialized documents using appropriate research strategies; -translate them into correct French and where necessary, taking into account the typology and terminology of the concerned domain.  

Content of UE

Cf. AA : T-ITAL-503 General Translation from the Foreign Language into French (part a) : Translation of general texts exploring the Italian and foreign news, socio-economic, financial and social contemporaries. Written translation exercises to reinforce learning. Practice of sight translation. +  T-ITAL-506 Specialised Translation from the Foreign Language into French (part b) : Translation of historical texts, institutional and political. Constitution of a glossary in order to master the specialized vocabulary used in texts dealing with institutional, political, geopolitical developments in Italy. Translations of texts following political events.
