Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Scientific skills
    • Implement and independently carry out an experimental approach, validate a model by comparing its predications with experimental results, assess the limitations of the model's validity, and identify sources or error.
    • In response to situations and aware of the methodological limitations: - Use common techniques of biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, studies of tissues and organs (i.e. link a macroscopic phenomenon to microscopic processes). - Use an experimental device in a biological model, know and use the concepts and techniques of animal physiology.
    • Use acquisition and data analysis software specific to biomedical sciences
    • Be familiar with biomedical science research tools, including bioinformatics tools.
    • Use the main measuring instruments and identify sources of error.
    • Appropriately select measuring instruments, analyse and process the signal obtained
    • Use basic mathematical tools
    • Master the statistical tools for life sciences
    • Be a responsible researcher: - Know how to base their reasoning on data obtained from scientific literature. - Know how to integrate an ethical dimension in their reasoning. - Be loyal (to the facts, to the team, and to intellectual property). - Do not tamper with results. - Do not exploit the work of others. - Demonstrate experimental rigor.
  • Professional integration skills
    • Invest their knowledge and skills in professional scenarios
    • Network, and use digital communication and collaboration tools
    • In the digital age, be responsible for the mastery of their digital identity, and respect the rules on privacy and intellectual property
    • Work in teams in different contexts including with people from different disciplines, integrate, fit in, collaborate, communicate and report
    • Be in a hierarchical and professional environment, identify their skills and follow procedures, legislation, standards, among other security and safety measures
    • Be accountable for their actions and practices in decision-making regarding humans, biodiversity, the environment and society
    • Be aware of ethical issues and apply ethical codes specific to life sciences in their behaviour
    • Be introduced to the process of production, distribution and exploitation of knowledge
    • Work independently: - Get organised, manage time and priorities, assess themself. - Master assessment methods. - Continue learning individually, prepare to educate themselves throughout life. - Demonstrate abstract thinking. - Be introduced to project management. - Show initiative.
    • Demonstrate their ability to research, analyse and synthesise: - Research, analyse, use different sources of information and materials related to biomedical sciences, format them to draw up a summarised document, produced and broadcast them on digital media. - Carry out a study, identify and raise an issue in a predefined context, build and develop an argument, interpret the data and results, develop an overview, and propose extensions. - Question themselves, think critically, debate, and defend their ideas.
    • Master written and oral scientific expression. Be independent in writing and show that they can communicate their thoughts, reason and organise their knowledge
    • Make a presentation illustrating arguments adapted to the object, the circumstances and the public: speak in public
    • Master scientific English: - Present scientific results, orally and in writing. - Answer scientific questions in English

Learning Outcomes of UE

The students perform a compulsory internship of 3 months in a company or an external laboratory.
The objective is to enable them to better explore the research and professional environment.

Content of UE

External laboratory internship of a minimum 3 months duration.

Type of Assessment for UE in Q2

  • Presentation and/or works

Q2 UE Assessment Comments

The evaluation is based on:
- 1 external promoter (the internship director)
- 2 examiners from the Faculty of Medicine or external (the choice of the examiner is not related to the Master thesis)
- a report written in French or in English
- an oral presentation in French or in English: 10 minutes, 5 minutes of questions
Evaluation: 30% for the promoter, 50% for the examiners, 20% for the Jury
