Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Control the molecular, morphological and functional approaches of normal and pathological conditions
    • Describe these states and technical examinations to quantify them in different approaches, as well as describe the operational characteristics of these examinations
    • Explain the relationships between molecular, morphological and functional changes and pathological conditions, their clinical signs and symptoms
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills developed within a medical context
    • Understand the basic rules of French and of English (grammar, punctuation, connectors, etc.).
    • Summarise, explain, and argue
  • Develop reasoning skills
    • Integrate reasoning in clinical approaches
    • Manage doubt and uncertainty
  • Manage resources
    • Manage time
    • Prioritise
  • Manage their studies
    • Have developed an interest for medicine
    • Locate scientific information efficiently
    • Compare different sources of information
  • Be a responsible practitioner
    • Base reasoning on the data taken from scientific literature (evidence-based-medicine)

Learning Outcomes of UE

At the end of the course, the student should be able to understand the mechanisms that lead to the development and the main clinical manifestations of neurological diseases.
He should understand the rationale of using treatments taking into account the underlying pathological mechanisms.

Content of UE

The concepts of pathophysiology of the nervous system treated in the course relate to the mechanisms for:
1. Neuropathies
2. Neuromuscular junction disorders
3. Myopathies
4. Epilepsy
5. Coma, altered states of consciousness
6. Stroke
7. Headaches, neuropathic pain
8. Dementias (Alzheimer's disease, Fronto temporal dementia,...)
9. Motor neuron diseases (Amyotrophic  Lateral Sclerosis,...)
10. Abnormal movement disorders (Parkinson's disease, ...)
11. Cerebellar diseases
