Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes of UE
Work on draft of a metal mining prefeasibility study dealing with a deposit situated abroad, and preferably in an English speaking country. By a case history, understand the complexity in developing a mining project including exploration, mining operations and mineral processing. practice another technical language, especially English.
Content of UE
A trip of about 10 days is organized in a country where various mining methods can be encountered. Every student will have to work on a particular mineral resource, and some meetings will be organised in order to exchange experiences under supervision of academic participants. Students will then have to read exploration reports, global economic mining documents, environmental impacts in relation of mining operations, mining plans, and new technologies to transform minerals into metals. they wil then produce a report including a geological, technical and economical parts.
Prior Experience
Geology; extraction of mineral resources; rock mechanics; design and construction of mining engineering structures; deep wells; reservoir engineering; mineral processing. This activity cannot be organised in the same region than the Mining Trip of the Block 1 of Master in Mining and Geology.
Type of Assessment for UE in Q2
Q2 UE Assessment Comments
The interrogation is organised as a quizz during the last day of the trip; its weight is 20% of the overall mark. A report in English is written by each student after the trip and is evaluated with an emphasis on personal observations. Bibliographic references are available in the Mining Department of the Faculty to help students in writing the report; students can also ask questions to people involved in teaching mining and related techniques. The report is weighted 100% of the total mark.
Type of Assessment for UE in Q3
Q3 UE Assessment Comments
If the report is of poor quality, it is asked the student to rewrite it without having to perform a new trip.
