Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Implement an engineering approach dealing with a set problem taking into account technical, economic and environmental constraints
    • Design, evaluate and optimise solutions addressing the problem
    • Implement a chosen solution in the form of a drawing, a schema, a plan, a model, a prototype, software and/or digital model
    • Identify and acquire the information and skills needed to solve the problem
  • Understand the theoretical and methodological fundamentals in science and engineering to solve problems involving these disciplines
    • Identify, describe and explain the basic principles of engineering particularly in their specialising field
    • Understand laboratory techniques: testing, measuring, monitoring protocol, and security
    • Select and rigorously apply knowledge, tools and methods in sciences and engineering to solve problems involving these disciplines
  • Understand the fundamentals of project management to carry out a set project, individually or as part of a team
    • Respect deadlines and timescales
  • Collaborate, work in a team
    • Interact effectively with other students to carry out collaborative projects.
  • Communicate in a structured way - both orally and in writing, in French and English - giving clear, accurate, reasoned information
    • Use several methods of written and graphic communication: text, tables, equations, sketches, maps, graphs, etc.
    • Present analysis or experiment results in laboratory reports

Learning Outcomes of UE

In Machines: Be able to solve a three-phase circuit. Deepen knowledge on the main electrical machines (transformers, asynchronous and dc machines).
In Power systems: Understand power systems in the steady-state. Calculate a one-line diagram in the per-unit system. Write basic equations of a load flow analysis. Understand voltage and frequency regulations

Content of UE

In Machines: Calculation of three-phase circuits. complements on transformers (parallel connection, measurement transformers); asynchronous machines: generator operation, braking; complements on dc machines.
In Power systems: major parts: production - transport - distribution ; the basic principles of synchronous machines, transformers, transmission lines ; load-flow analysis ; active-reactive decoupling ; reactive compensation ; power flow control ; automatic generation control.

Type of Assessment for UE in Q2

  • Presentation and/or works
  • Written examination
  • Graded tests

Q2 UE Assessment Comments

Learning activity (AA) Machines = 50% of the score of the UE.  Weighting: written examination (50%); marked exercise (30%); practical work reports (20%). Learning activity (AA) Réseaux = 50% of the score of the UE.  Weighting: written examination (85%); written project report (15%) (to be submitted at least one week before the exam date). One written examination for both AA (maximum duration: 3 hours).  The examination consists of questions of theory, reflective questions and possibly exercises on all the matter to determine if the student has a general overview of the course and if he masters it.
