Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes of UE
This programme will enable the student to: (a) understand the theoretical and methodological basis of social psychology and to apply it when explaining interpersonal and societal phenomena (immigration, xenophobia, homophobia, discrimination, sexism, the others' influence on mental and physical health and on justice, etc.); (b) analyse and get a critical understanding on experimental methodologies and data that are collected on societal issues - case studies, scientific articles, etc.; (c) develop some learning strategies that are needed to pursue their training with a high level of autonomy (e.g. for the master thesis and practical work).
Content of UE
Social psychology aims to study how beliefs, emotions and behaviours are influenced by the imagined, real or implicit presence of others. The current programme will cover the main theories and methodologies in social psychology and give tools to understand how individuals live, think, feel and behave in the presence of others. Based on recent societal or professional issues and/or recent research progress, this programme will be divided into the following chapters: definitions, research methods and classical data analyses in social psychology; self-concept and self-esteem; social perception and social cognition; attitudes and change in attitude; stereotypes, prejudices and discrimination; social groups, social identity, and intergroup relations; social influence; social thinking and communication
