• Master specialist knowledge in the field of economic, political and social sciences in order to mobilise it on issues related to political, economic and social environments.

Learning Outcomes of UE

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be  better equipped to join the global workforce and will have learned to communicate more effectively in international business settings. First, students will be prepared to apply in English: to think critically about job descriptions, positively present their own skills and personality, write effective cover letters and CVs, and successfully handle themselves during job interviews. Then, students will gain intercultural intelligence, a critical tool in the international workplace. They will learn to recognize different cultural identities and adapt their behaviour in order to avoid faux-pas and negotiate successfully.

Content of UE

"English Communication Seminars" consist of two learning modules: 1/ "Application Survival Guide" will prepare the students to apply for jobs in English. 2/ "Business Cross-Cultural Challenges" : we will take a close look at the cultural differences, large and small, that determine how business is conducted around the world, with a view to better navigating our globalized marketplace.

Prior Experience

Students enrolled in this course are required to have a good working knowledge of English : CECR B2 or requirements of the previous level (1st year of the Master) : "Business English B2".

Talks, directed study and active class participation matter. Class attendance is strongly recommended. 2 absences are  allowed per workshop. A student missing more than 2 classes will be automatically dropped from the class and will have to resit.

Students who don't satisfy the requirements of the course will have to resit for the English Communication Seminars. They will be examined orally and have to be prepared to: - report on their work placement - develop  the main points of their dissertation - explain thoroughly the subjects developped in both learning modules.
