Programme component

Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Linguistic Skills - Apply linguistic knowledge to the practice of translation or interpretation.
    • Master the French language at level C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
    • Master the foreign languages at level C2 in reading and listening, and level C1 in writing and speaking.
    • Continuously assess and maintain that linguistic knowledge.
    • Transmit a message expressed in another language, orally or in writing, all the while respecting the intention, the target audience, the linguistic register and the objectives of the original language and message.
  • Thematic Competency - Develop and apply thematic knowledge related to domains in which translation is practised.
    • Undertake to acquire specialised terminology in the chosen foreign languages.
    • Identify what information and documentation is required.
    • Master the strategies, tools and techniques needed for carrying out documentary or terminological research.

Learning Outcomes of UE

At the end of the second module of the master in translation, students should be able to:- translate specialized texts in the fields considered with a high degree of proficiency as to the style and the content;- choose the appropriate terms as to ensure their translation is fit for publication without an over-lengthy revision by a specialist of the field;- warrant their terminological and stylistic choices;- use the basic tools involved in computer-enhanced translation.They will be able to provide a translation in the foreign language which:- requires little or no revision by a native speaker ;- then render the translation fit for purpose and acceptable on the market.

Content of UE

Translating texts on legal / political and scientific / technological / economic subjects.Practical sessions with use of the appropriate office automation and computer tools such as word processing and specialized databases.Translation of texts on general subjects and exercises in comparative linguistics. Practical application of learned strategies to produce a natural and true translation in the foreign language. Intensive and careful use of documentation and other linguistic resources meant for native speakers.
