Programme component

Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Cultural and Intercultural Competency - Utilise intercultural knowledge in order to understand, analyse, and contextualise in the practice of translation.
    • Be able to recognise the socio-cultural components underlying an oral or written text.
    • Analyse the assumptions, implicit or explicit, allusions, stereotypes and intertextuality of any oral or written document.
  • Cognitive Skills - Possess a solid theoretical grounding in translation and/or interpretation and be able to apply it to the professional practice thereof and actively pursue further independent development of it.
    • Develop the necessary analytical and synthesis faculties to be able to understand and work on complex texts.

Learning Outcomes of UE

Familiarize the student with the principal aspects of the Greek life and culture from antiquity to the present day Introduce the student to the contribution of the Greek language and thought, of the literature and arts in their diachrony and study their impact on the European and other culture Know the principal milestones of the Greek history and develop a reflexion on it. Study of the particularities of the Greek culture and civilization as well as of the us and the customs, of its gastronom, of its songs, associated with the poetry from antiquity to the present day, and of its millennial dances
 

Content of UE

Art and architecture from the Neolithic era and their evolution. Byzantium and antiquity, Byzantium and modernity. Myths and philosophy : the founding myths and the main philosophical currents. The innovative ideas of the Greek thought..The birth of democracy and theater. From the Persian wars to the Empire of Alexander the Great, the expansion of the Greek language and culture. The Greek heritage and the contemporary world. The events that have marked Greece nowadays. The daily life.
