Programme component

Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Linguistic Skills - Apply linguistic knowledge to the practice of translation or interpretation.
    • Be proficient in another foreign language.
  • Cultural and Intercultural Competency - Utilise intercultural knowledge in order to understand, analyse, and contextualise in the practice of translation.
    • Be familiar with the political, social and cultural environment of the working language and the chosen foreign languages, as well as a sustained effort to keep abreast of all new developments in those areas.
    • Be able to recognise the socio-cultural components underlying an oral or written text.
  • Thematic Competency - Develop and apply thematic knowledge related to domains in which translation is practised.
    • Identify what information and documentation is required.
    • Master the strategies, tools and techniques needed for carrying out documentary or terminological research.

Learning Outcomes of UE

At the end of this programme component, students will master Polish at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for languages, as for receptive competences. They will be at level B1 for productive competences. They should be able to: - understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics; - produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest; - describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

Content of UE

Commented reading of a large range of texts. Commented listening activities, based on audio(visual) resources. Oral and written production exercises: written texts and oral utterances in Polish on various topics. Systematic and appropriate use of grammar and vocabulary.
