Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Understand language of instruction and foreign languages (language skills)
    • Communicate easily and adequately, in both selected foreign languages, at a minimum level of B2 in line with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
  • Understand and integrate cultural similarities and differences (cultural and intercultural skills)
    • Demonstrate real knowledge of the cultures of the studied languages
    • Develop knowledge in various fields, in particular those aimed at by translation activities
  • Use everyday technology (technological skills)
    • Use standard office software tools and editorial assistance effectively
  • Use lexicographical resources and reference materials to lead linguistic mediation activities individually or as part of a team (professional skills)
    • Use printed or electronic dictionaries and reference materials appropriately
    • Reformulate, summarise, translate or interpret a document of general interest written or presented orally in a foreign language into French
  • Conduct relevant research and report on it in a critical manner (cognitive skills)
    • Conduct targeted and reasoned documentary research in both the core language and the foreign languages studied
    • Assess the relevance and reliability of documentary sources used
    • Give a critique of the studied literature

Learning Outcomes of UE

AA : T-ITAL-305 Introduction to translation (part b) : At the end of the 2nd block, students will be able to:  - bring out the logical structure of a general text, written in the foreign language;  - render the meaning of this text in a correct French;  - use dictionaries and reference documents advisedly.       T-ITAL-507 Translation from French into the Foreign language (part b) : Students will be able to: - provide a true and accurate translation of text using the foreign language correctly and appropriately; - apply appropriate strategies of revision, avoidance and communication.

Content of UE

T-ITAL-305 Introduction to translation (part b) : Introduction to the basic translation principles and technologies.  Introduction to the translation of informative and pragmatic texts, accessible at the B1 level of the CEFR. T-ITAL-507 Translation from French into the Foreign language (part b) : Translation of texts on general subjects and exercises in comparative linguistics. Emphasis on specific problems inherent in the foreign language. Critical use of documentation and language reference materials available in the target language.
