Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Understand language of instruction and foreign languages (language skills)
    • Communicate easily and adequately, in both selected foreign languages, at a minimum level of B2 in line with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
  • Understand and integrate cultural similarities and differences (cultural and intercultural skills)
    • Demonstrate real knowledge of the cultures of the studied languages
    • Identify cultural differences and talk about them
    • Be familiar with codes and conventions of other cultures for the sake of interpersonal relationships
  • Conduct relevant research and report on it in a critical manner (cognitive skills)
    • Conduct targeted and reasoned documentary research in both the core language and the foreign languages studied
    • Assess the relevance and reliability of documentary sources used
    • Give a critique of the studied literature

Learning Outcomes of UE

AA : T-ITAL-400 <a href="http://applications.umons.ac.be/web/fr/pde/2015-2016/aa/T-ITAL-400.htm"><b>Culture et institutions</b></a>  At the end of this learning activity, students will be able to:
- identify, place and describe significant cultural events as a native speaker would (literature, Fine Arts, political, economic and social organisation, judicial system, etc.);
- carry out competent and accurate research on these subjects;
- report on their methodology and research. AA : T-ITAL-401 <b>Language</b>  : Upon completion of the language courses of the third module, students will have a good command of the foreign language at the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Students will be able to:
- understand texts in which the writers adopt particular stances or viewpoints as well as contemporary fiction works; follow complex lines of argument provided the topic is reasonably familiar; understand current affairs programmes and films in standard dialect;
- interact with native speakers;
- produce clear, detailed texts on a wide range of familiar subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue.

Content of UE

AA : T-ITAL-400 Culture and institutions : Familiarization with culture and literature.
Presentation of the organisation of the political, judicial and social systems, as well as of important social activities (education, media, etc.).
Personal work and research. Study Italian institutions, their evolution and their transformation from 1871 to the present day by reviewing the steps that led to modern Italy. Study of economic and social problems, study of fascism, the different parties since World War II until today. An introduction to contemporary literature (1871-present) helps to refine the knowledge of these different périodes via the work of major authors. AA : T-ITAL-401 Language : Critical analysis of genuine audio-visual documents and varied texts. Oral and written exercises.
Emphasis on interaction with native speakers and on intercultural skills (preparation for linguistic immersion during the 2nd term).
