Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Understand language of instruction and foreign languages (language skills)
    • Communicate easily and adequately, in both selected foreign languages, at a minimum level of B2 in line with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
  • Understand and integrate cultural similarities and differences (cultural and intercultural skills)
    • Demonstrate real knowledge of the cultures of the studied languages
    • Identify cultural differences and talk about them
  • Use lexicographical resources and reference materials to lead linguistic mediation activities individually or as part of a team (professional skills)
    • Use printed or electronic dictionaries and reference materials appropriately
    • Carry out, alone or in groups, activities or projects involving critical analysis
    • Communicate results or conclusions of these activities or projects in an appropriate manner
  • Conduct relevant research and report on it in a critical manner (cognitive skills)
    • Conduct targeted and reasoned documentary research in both the core language and the foreign languages studied

Learning Outcomes of UE

Upon completion of the language courses of the second block, students will have a good command of the foreign language at the B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
<b>Command of the Written Language</b>
Students will be able to: - grasp the meaning of texts written in common language or related to their activities; - understand the description of events, feelings and wishes in personal letters; - produce simple connected texts on topics that are familiar or of personal interest; - write personal letters that describe personal experiences and impressions.
<b>Command of the Spoken Language</b>
Students will be able to: - understand the main points of clear standard speech; understand the main points of radio news bulletins and simpler recorded material about familiar subjects delivered relatively slowly and clearly; - enter into conversation on familiar topics; - tell experiences and events, opinions and projects, tell a story or the plot of a book or a film and express their reactions.

Content of UE

<b>Command of the Written Language</b>
Commented reading of factual and literary texts. Essay and report writing, creative writing, in a simple and functional language in good grammar with a good stock of common phrases and expressions.
<b>Command of the Spoken Language</b>
Production of utterances centred on description, narration and expression of personal opinions, in a simple and functional language, in familiar contexts and predictable situations.
<b>Cultural Studies</b>
Study of the most important historical stages since the founding of Rome (-753) to the Risorgimento (1871). The historical periods chosen must bring the student to understand the complexity of modern Italy (f.i. the historic divide between North and South).In parallel, notions of literature and the study of major authors and artists (Marco Polo, Dante, Leonardo da Vinci, etc.) to help understanding of the specific characteristics of each period.The political and institutional news is also covered.
