Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Help lead and complete a major development project, individually or in teams, related to chemistry.
    • Mobilise, articulate and promote the knowledge and skills acquired.
  • Have acquired professional skills in relation to the objective defining the degree.
    • Specialise in at least one sub-domain of chemistry.
    • Integrate into an inter-university environment and conduct scientific collaborations.
  • In the field of chemistry, possess highly specialised and integrated knowledge and a wide range of skills adding to those covered in the Bachelor's programme in chemistry.
  • Help lead and complete a major development project, individually or in teams, related to chemistry.
    • Mobilise, articulate and promote the knowledge and skills acquired.
  • Communicate clearly in the scientific domain.
    • Communicate, both orally and in writing, their findings, original proposals, knowledge and underlying principles, in a clear, structured and justified manner.
  • Develop and integrate a high degree of autonomy.
    • Aquire new knowledge independently.

Learning Outcomes of UE

The UE is addressing the issue of natural materials with the aim of providing the future Pharmacist with general conceptual skills that will enable him/her : to analyze the structure of new complex molecules to place them in a context of known biosynthetic structures or pathways; to relate the structures, the pharmacological activities and the traditional use of medicinal plants to understand the methods of analysis described in the Pharmacopoeia monographs.

Content of UE

This UE is the continuation of the EU "Pharmacognosy I - Introduction to Pharmacognosy - UM-B2-PHARMA-010-M" The UE develops strong foundations of phytochemistry, supported by the study of active components biosyntheses; the analytical and pharmacological aspects are also deepened for the natural compounds which do not have an equivalent in traditional drugs. It aims at understanding the position of medicinal plants in modern therapy, taking into account the ratio benefits-risks.
