Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • In the field of chemistry, possess highly specialised and integrated knowledge and a wide range of skills adding to those covered in the Bachelor's programme in chemistry.
  • Help lead and complete a major development project, individually or in teams, related to chemistry.
    • Mobilise, articulate and promote the knowledge and skills acquired.
  • Develop and integrate a high degree of autonomy.
    • Pursue their education and gain additional knowledge and new skills.
    • Adapt and evolve in a new context.
  • Apply high quality scientific methodology.
    • Demonstrate thoroughness, independence, creativity, intellectual honesty, and ethical values.

Learning Outcomes of UE

After the course , students will be able to: - Describe a clean surface using the appropriate nomenclature - Understand the thermodynamic concepts of surfaces - Explain the phenomena related to curved surfaces and nucleation of the material - Understand XPS and Auger spectra - Discuss the formation of the electrochemical double layers

Content of UE

Structure of clean surfaces and adsorbed monolayer ; thermodynamics of surfaces ( thermal capacity of the surfaces ; surface free energy , surface tension, curved surfaces, isotherms, nucleation) ; dynamic surface ( vibration surface carbon , gas -surface interaction , surface diffusion , desorption) ; electrical properties of surfaces ( space charge model jellium , work output, double layer Stern layer , zeta potential ) ; surfaces bonding

Prior Experience

Structure of atoms, fundamentals of thermodynamics , electrochemistry concepts
