Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the theoretical and methodological fundamentals in psychology and educational sciences to analyse a situation involving these disciplines
    • Identify and explain the concepts, principles and models of fundamental theoretical trends in psychology and educational sciences and their applications
    • Identify and describe the biological and socio-cultural foundations of human behaviour
    • Identify and describe the specific characteristics of psychology and educational sciences and their relationship to other contributory disciplines
    • Explain and give examples of human functioning, including in its atypical and pathological dimensions
    • Describe the principles of methodological approaches (objectives, methods, techniques and tools) to understand and explain the functioning of individuals, groups and organisations
  • Understand the fundamentals of intervention
    • Explain the concepts and relationships of theoretical models of intervention adopt a critical stance regarding these models.
    • Identify the type of intervention, with reference to a theoretical framework, including the choice of appropriate tools to be implemented based on the analysis of a well-defined situation
  • Provide clear, accurate, and reasoned information
    • Summarise the contributions of different sources to justify an opinion or decision
    • Provide information (both orally and in writing) regarding the fields of psychology and educational sciences in an intelligible manner, with a good command of the language communication techniques.
  • Collaborate, work in a team
    • Interact effectively with other students to carry out collaborative projects.
    • Analyse personal performance within a group
    • Demonstrate active listening and empathy in the context of an interpersonal situation

  • Understand the fundamentals related to the scientific approach in psychology or educational sciences

    • Identify and describe the different steps to carry out research
    • Identify and explain the main methods (including limitations) specific to the scientific process
    • Conduct relevant research from scientific literature, from both Francophone and Anglophone references, and select appropriate elements with respect to a particular research topic.
    • Give a critique and argue a point of view as part of a scientific approach

Learning Outcomes of UE

This programme will enable the student to: (a) understand the theoretical and methodological basis of social psychology and to apply it when explaining interpersonal and societal phenomena (immigration, xenophobia, homophobia, discrimination, sexism, the others’ influence on mental and physical health and on justice, etc.); (b) analyse and get a critical understanding on experimental methodologies and data that are collected on societal issues – case studies, scientific articles, etc.; (c) communicate ideas in a clear, logical and structured way; (d) develop some learning strategies that are needed to pursue their training with a high level of autonomy (e.g. for the master thesis and practical work).

Content of UE

Social psychology aims to study how beliefs, emotions and behaviours are influenced by the imagined, real or implicit presence of others. The current programme will cover the main theories and methodologies in social psychology and give tools to understand how individuals live, think, feel and behave in the presence of others. Based on recent societal or professional issues and/or recent research progress, this programme will be divided into the following chapters: definitions, research methods and classical data analyses in social psychology; self-concept and self-esteem; social perception and social cognition; attitudes and change in attitude; stereotypes, prejudices and discrimination; social groups, social identity, and intergroup relations; social influence; social thinking and communication.

The assessment will made up of two different components. The first component is a written exam during the 1st session (multiple choice questions, closed book) which counts for 75% of the final mark. The group and personal work carried out during the learning activities of the semester count for the other 25% of the final mark. The working groups and learning activities of this programme are only organised during the classes and are not organised for the second session.
