Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • 1. Pharmaceutical expertise: Use a foundation of concepts and knowledge in health sciences and pharmaceutical sciences.
    • Understand and integrate the fundamental sciences (chemistry, physics, biology, botany) involved in the specific fields of pharmaceutical sciences
    • Understand and apply mathematical translations of large models and chemical and/or biological phenomena through abstract reasoning
    • Understand and use different graphical representations of numerical values and their relationships
    • Perceive spatial distribution, and understand two- and three-dimensional representations and interconvert them
    • Understand how the human body works by using knowledge of anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, immunology, microbiology and pathology under the dual approach of normal and pathological conditions in order to understand the action of medications on the body.
    • Understand the basic concepts of pharmacology and pharmacokinetics
    • Understand compounds for pharmaceutical application regarding their chemical structures, their structure-activity relationships, their physicochemical properties, their origins (synthetic, semi-synthetic, natural), their analytical control methods and their areas of use from a therapeutic point of view.
  • 2. Scientific method: Solve pharmaceutical problems using their knowledge and critical mind.
    • Understand and apply the basic principles of reasoning (obtaining data, analysis, synthesis, comparison, the rule of three, syllogism, analogy, Boolean logic, etc.)
    • Understand and use statistical methods
    • Use a hypothesis in inductive, deductive or abductive reasoning
    • Develop a critical, practical and analytical mind
    • Manage doubt and uncertainty
    • Develop and rigorously manage an experimental protocol (from information gathering to the production, interpretation and presentation of results).
  • 3. Communication: Communicate in an appropriate, efficient, rigorous and respectful way in a professional perspective.
    • Understand the basic rules of French and of English (grammar, punctuation, connectors, etc.).
    • Use a rich vocabulary linking concepts and words accurately
    • Adapt lexical and syntactic choices in communication register (everyday language, medical language or scientific terminology)
    • Summarise, explain, and argue
    • Implement ICT in an appropriate manner
    • Share knowledge and information
  • 4. Sense of responsibility: Act ethically and professionally.
    • Be aware of the concept of "pharmaceutical care"
    • Base their reasoning on the data from the scientific literature
    • Show loyalty and scientific honesty (in teamwork and in respecting the results and the work of others)
  • 5. Quality: Assess themself, expand their knowledge and adapt their attitude.

Learning Outcomes of UE

The main objective of this course is to provide to the students the major tools uise di the rediciton of potektail toxic effects of chemicals.  Consequently, at the end of this course, the students will be able to :

-  understand and describe the predictive approach based on structure-activity relationship (QSAR)

- Use predictive softwares (Meteor and Derek) for the prediction of the metabolism and the safety of a substance from its chemical structure

- identify the most appropriate <em>in vitro and</em><em> in vivo assays for risk assessment based on the target organ</em>

- interprete data obtained by genomics, proteomics, and metabonomics approaches applied to toxicology

- design a study protocol for preclinical toxicology evaluation

Content of UE

After a short introduction on the basic concepts in toxicology, the course will be divided into two sections:

1. <em>in silico </em><em>Models</em><em> </em>/QSAR

2. <em>in vitro </em>et <em>in vivo </em>Models (mutagenicity, developmental toxicity, major target organs)

3. Genomics, proteomics, and metabonomics approaches applied to toxcicology
