Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

• Have a complete understanding. Analyse any communicative situation (real or depicted) in reference to the theoretical and methodological frameworks within various scientific approaches to language.
• Master and appropriately mobilise knowledge and methodological approaches to understand and explain the normal/atypical/pathological functioning of individuals, groups or organisations, using any form of language.
• Analyse and model a communicative situation (individually or collectively) by critically selecting isolated theories and suitable methodological approaches.
• Critically analyse the extent and limitations of different types of intervention in a situation of linguistic nature.
• Communicate effectively. Communicate and exchange information in a structured and adapted way to the intended purpose and relevant public.

• Adopt a specialist approach to Critical Analysis of Discourse. Master the concepts, techniques, methods, and devices specific to Critical Analysis of Discourse.
• Master and appropriately apply argumentation techniques, not only to argue correctly, effectively and appropriately, but also to be able to identify the main argumentation errors and manipulation strategies that reinforce them and the intended or caused effects.
• Know the main manipulation strategies in order to be able to identify them in different forms of discourse and be able to highlight them to different audiences.
• Critically analyse the language used in discourse, and identify the issues and effects of these linguistic choices.

Learning Outcomes of UE

Student will be able to apply the analytical framework they have seen throughout their studies to a particular professional situation and will be able to identify manipulation, and arguing techniques as well as errors in reasoning. They will have to analyse the aforementioned, describing the elements identified and their aims.

Content of UE

The work placement will be carried out in the professional environment which the student presently works in, or would like to work in in the future. Students must complete 30 hours observing the linguistic techniques they learnt about throughout their studies. At the end of the work placement the students will have to hand in a work placement report which should highlight the linguistic practices and arguments used during the placement and analyse them. The report must include 7 pages of observation and 7 pages of analysis.
