Content of Learning Activity
In order to develop the ability to debate, reason and argue, all of which are at the core of the specific methodology of philosophy, the course will consist of a more practical than theoretical approach, and will be based on a number of exercises.
We will first learn to identify the specificity of philosophical discourse in relation to other methods of knowledge and reflection on the world. The following sessions will alternate between lectures and group or individual exercises. These will address different points.
In a first phase, we will discuss the different practices of argumentation and debate, then, in a second stage, the question of different types of discourse, proof, demonstrations and arguments, and finally, the use of jargon and political-speak. The many exercises offered to participants will enable them to both recognize these different types of discourse and use them adequately.
The course will conclude with a study of the main errors of reasoning and argumentation in order to allow participants to identify and respond effectively.
