      Content of Learning Activity

      Complement of optical microscopy : reflection microscopy, epifluorescence, etching/colouring techniques and cathodoluminescence X-ray diffraction : basic principle, equipment, interpretation of spectra from random and orientated aggregates (powder and clay mineral analysis). Electron microscopy and microanalysis : interactions between electrons and matter, operating the electron microscope and microprobe, signal detection (SE, BSE, RX), Energy- and wavelength dispersice spectrometry (EDS and WDS), qualitative and quantitative microanalysis techniques, errors and statistics for microanalysis. Laser-based spectroscopic analytical techniques (Raman and LIBS)
