Content of Learning Activity
The notion of globalization, which emerged in the 1970s, was quickly used to describe a large number of contemporary processes: the rise of international trade, new information and communication technologies, international investment, emerging countries, relocations, International migration, etc. The process of globalization has traditionally been defined according to four main characteristics: the shrinking of the planet in which the world would become unique, the impact of triumphant capitalism, the sovereignty of states (above and below) and the logical consequence of colonization. The objective of the course will be to look at the multidimensional process that this phenomenon presents.
Is globalization a new phenomenon? Is it embodied in flows and networks, or in specific locations? Is it reserved for elites or is there a globalization from the bottom? Does it lead to standardization or diversification?
This course will take up these questions one by one, synthesize the answers provided by researchers in human and social sciences, present their new theories and methodologies, and explain the use they have made of them in their work.
