Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes of UE
The student must be able to learn several aspects of the drugs used in Belgium, among which their pharmacological and physico-chemical properties, their pratical uses in medicine, how to analyse them and how to create new drugs.
Content of UE
* Theory: analysis of chemical groups; drug design at the molecular level (molecular pharmacochemistry); systematic study of several pharmaceutical classes (anti-infectious drugs, antitumoral and immunomodulatory drugs; peripheral nervous system drugs). * Laboratory work: analysis of several samples of drugs (with our without impurities) following a European Pharmacopoeia monograph (identity, purity and assay).
Prior Experience
Prerequisites : Chimie organique. Pharmacologie générale. Courses to be followed along with the present UE : Chimie analytique qualitative et quantitative Analyse instrumentale pharmaceutique Etude des médicaments inorganiques Pharmacognosie: Phytochimie et étude des médicaments d'origine végétale Pharmacologie générale
Type of Assessment for UE in Q1
Q1 UE Assessment Comments
Final mark : 2/3 for the theoretical examination and 1/3 for the practical work (within this last section : the mean of the practical work contributes for 2/3 of the final mark and the practical work written examination for 1/3). However, if the theoretical examination is not successful (score strictly less than 10/20), only the theoretical mark is taken into account. Warnings regarding the written examination: - Each question is scored on 0.5, 1 or 2 depending on the expected level of response. The intermediate mark is calculated from the total marks for the entire examination and then recalculated to 20 for the final mark. - depending on the quality of incorrect response given (eg, errors considered serious in terms of the importance of the covered concepts or their fundamental aspect regarding the level of study) or the quality of expression answers (eg, globaly for the examination: poorly organized answers, not correctly written, or nebulous meaning), additional points may be withdrawn without exceeding 2/20 on the final mark.
Type of Assessment for UE in Q3
Q3 UE Assessment Comments
- There is no practical examination in Q3 but a possibility to present once again the theoretical examination related to practical work. - Final mark : 2/3 for the theoretical examination and 1/3 for the practical work (within this last section : the mean of the practical work contributes for 2/3 of the final mark and the practical work written examination for 1/3). However, if the theoretical examination is not successful (score strictly less than 10/20), only the theoretical mark is taken into account. Warnings regarding the written examination: - Each question is scored on 0.5, 1 or 2 depending on the expected level of response.
