Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes of UE
Justification of the chosen extraction processes for various metals and comprehension of the industrial processes used therefor. The main objective is to allow students to understand the link between the operating conditions and the necessary thermodynamic conditions. The students will also be aware of the energy needs and environmental impact of metal processing.
Content of UE
Thermodynamic study of steelmaking and non-ferrous production processes; Phenomenological study of stellmaking: oxygen steelmaking and refining of steel (including stainless steel), steel recycling with EAF furnace, Non-ferrous metal production processes:copper, zinc, magnesium, titanium, molybdenum, zirconium ... Theoretical and phenomenological study of metal solidification, including continuous casting; Metallurgical phenomena occuring during hot and cold rolling; Products quality; Environmental aspects.

Q2 UE Assessment Comments
Class participation: 10% of final grade. The classe is based on a CLIL (content and language integrated learning) pedagogy. the implication of student during class will thus be evaluated: oral interventions, use of on-line pedagogic tools, ....
Lab, seminaries and plant visits: 20% of the total note; Evaluation of the computer simulation project. The grade includes quality of the report's presentatin and exactitude of the explanations. Evaluation of participation to seminars and plant visits: astonishment report.
Oral exam, 70% of final mark, max. duration 60 min. All the content is susceptible to be evaluated (ferrous and non ferrous metallurgy, solidification and rolling), including exercises. questions are distributed randomly. Students prepare their answers and expose them orally. Exam includes at least 2 questions. Synthesis and concision are required for the answers.

Lab, seminaries and plant visits: 25% of the total note (reports of the previous grade).

Students prepare their answers and expose them orally. Exam includes at least 2 questions. Synthesis and concision are required for the answers.
