Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Understand language of instruction and foreign languages (language skills)
    • Communicate easily and adequately, in both selected foreign languages, at a minimum level of B2 in line with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
  • Understand and integrate cultural similarities and differences (cultural and intercultural skills)
    • Demonstrate real knowledge of the cultures of the studied languages
    • Identify cultural differences and talk about them
    • Develop knowledge in various fields, in particular those aimed at by translation activities

Learning Outcomes of UE

Students will be able to:
- understand the challenges of general translation and make the necessary research to solve those challenges;
- translate general texts in written and with a high degree of precision, in a correct French and in the appropriate style;
- translate and/or summarize general texts orally, without any mistranslations and at the normal rhythm of speech delivery. - implement the basic principles of terminological work;
- select and to use terminological tools;
- manage the terminology necessary to a translation project. - provide a true and accurate translation of text using the foreign language correctly and appropriately;
- apply appropriate strategies of revision, avoidance and communication.

Content of UE

Written translation of non-specialized texts of variable length and style, with highlighting of the common translation pitfalls and of the intertextual conventions in the source and target language.
Oral translation, exhaustive or summarized, of shorter general texts.
The students will be introduced to the basic principles of terminology and lexicography. They will become acquainted with term banks and other terminological resources, in their foreign language in particular.
The students will be given practical assignments in which they will be asked to create and manage terminological databases using computer tools. Translation of texts on general subjects and exercises in comparative linguistics. Emphasis on specific problems inherent in the foreign language. Critical use of documentation and language reference materials available in the target language.
