Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Implement an engineering approach dealing with a set problem taking into account technical, economic and environmental constraints
    • Design, evaluate and optimise solutions addressing the problem
  • Understand the theoretical and methodological fundamentals in arts, science, engineering and construction to solve problems involving these disciplines
    • Select and thoroughly apply knowledge, methods and tools in arts, sciences, engineering sciences and construction to solve problems involving these disciplines
  • Complete an architecture project, individually or as part of a team
    • Analyse and characterise complex problems in the field of architecture by adopting a scientific, heuristic, hermeneutic, systemic and transdisciplinary approach which integrates ethical, cultural, human, economic, technological and environmental contexts and issues
  • Collaborate, work in a team
    • Identify and appropriately implement the different ways of working in a group
  • Communicate in a structured way - visually, orally and in writing, in French and English - giving clear, accurate, and reasoned information
    • Argue to and persuade a project owner, teachers and a board orally, with visual aids and in writing
  • Demonstrate thoroughness and independence throughout their studies
    • Develop scientific and cultural curiosity and open-mindedness

Learning Outcomes of UE

The aim of this course is to give students the tools to analysze and compare different urban developments while integrating sustainable development aspects. The comparison of different programes and projects, which intend to make and invent new urban and architectural models, seeks to encourage students to integrate sustainable development criteria into their work. The reflection is organiszed around several key principles: understanding the changes of current practices, finding the technical and architectural solutions adopted to meet the new requirements, and manufacturing sustainable developments by professional architects.

Content of UE

Students describe, spaces of the city at different levels, searching for the overlap between architecture, public space and sustainable development. This requires an integrated and systemic approach considering both the purposes and principles of sustainable architecture and urban planning.
