        Content of Learning Activity

The primary objective of the course is to significantly increase the language skills and capabilities in (Belgian) Dutch legal terminology. This will be achieved by acquiring (Belgian) Dutch legal vocabulary as well as through a familiarization with and practice of the structure of the (Belgian) Dutch legal language, by studying and translating into French a number of (Belgian) Dutch legal texts (mainly in case law and doctrine). The second objective is for students to know where to find the tools of information: books, legal journals, software, specialized dictionaries, electronic and public sources, and to manage using them. Students are stimulated to analyze the legal jargon used by the authorities, courts, and Dutch (Belgian) authors in their legal context and within a specific socio-cultural context.

        Required Learning Resources/Tools

Prior knowledge and skills: students have a good knowledge of Dutch, both written and oral. They have successfully completed the Dutch language courses during the first two years of the LLB.
