      Objectives of general skills

      • Linguistic Skills - Apply linguistic knowledge to the practice of translation or interpretation.
        • Master the French language at level C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
        • Master the foreign languages at level C2 in reading and listening, and level C1 in writing and speaking.
        • Continuously assess and maintain said linguistic knowledge;
        • Transmit a message expressed in another language, orally or in writing, all the while respecting the intention, the target audience, the linguistic register and the objectives of the original language and message.
      • Thematic Competency - Develop and apply thematic knowledge related to domains in which translation is practised.
        • Undertake to acquire specialised terminology in the chosen foreign languages.
        • Identify what information and documentation is required.
        • Master the strategies, tools and techniques needed for carrying out documentary or terminological research.

      UE's Learning outcomes

      At the end of the first module of the master in translation, students should be able to: -understand specialized documents using appropriate research strategies; -translate them into correct French and where necessary, taking into account the typology and terminology of the concerned domain. They will be able to: - provide a true and accurate translation of text using the foreign language correctly and appropriately; - apply appropriate strategies of revision, avoidance and communication.

      UE Content

      Translating specialised texts from various domains whether economical, technical, scientific or medical. Use of documentary and terminological resources (CAT). Translation of texts on general subjects and exercises in comparative linguistics. Emphasis on specific problems inherent to the foreign language. Critical use of documentation and language reference materials available in the target language.
