      Objectives of general skills

      • Understand language of instruction and foreign languages (language skills)
        • Communicate easily and adequately, in both selected foreign languages, at a minimum level of B2 in line with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
        • Be proficient in another foreign language
      • Understand and integrate cultural similarities and differences (cultural and intercultural skills)
        • Demonstrate real knowledge of the cultures of the studied languages
        • Identify cultural differences and talk about them
        • Be familiar with codes and conventions of other cultures for the sake of interpersonal relationships
      • Use everyday technology (technological skills)
        • Use standard office software tools and editorial assistance effectively
      • Use lexicographical resources and reference materials to lead linguistic mediation activities individually or as part of a team (professional skills)
        • Use printed or electronic dictionaries and reference materials appropriately
        • Reformulate, summarise, translate or interpret a document of general interest written or presented orally in a foreign language into French
        • Carry out, alone or in groups, activities or projects involving critical analysis
        • Communicate results or conclusions of these activities or projects in an appropriate manner
      • Conduct relevant research and report on it in a critical manner (cognitive skills)
        • Conduct targeted and reasoned documentary research in both the core language and the foreign languages studied
        • Assess the relevance and reliability of documentary sources used
        • Give a critique of the studied literature

      UE's Learning outcomes

      Upon completion of the language courses of the third module, students will have a good command of Italian at the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. They will be able to: - identify, place and describe significant cultural events as a native speaker would (literature, Fine Arts, political, economic and social organisation, judicial system, etc.) ; - carry out competent and accurate research on these subjects ;  - report on their methodology and research. - bring out the logical structure of a general text, written in the foreign language; - render the meaning of this text in a correct French; - advisedly use dictionaries and reference documents.

      UE Content

      Critical analysis of genuine audio-visual documents and varied texts. Oral and written exercises. Emphasis on interaction with native speakers and on intercultural skills (preparation for linguistic immersion). Familiarization with culture and literature.  Presentation of the organisation of the political, judicial and social systems, as well as of important social activities (education, media, etc.).  Basic principles and techniques of sight translation and consecutive interpretation.  Introduction to oral translation of a written text or a short speech. Written translation of informative and pragmatic texts. Personal work and research.
