      Objectives of general skills

      • Understand the fundamentals
        • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of mathematics suitable for the study of physics, and be able to use this mathematics in applications in the field of physics
        • Undertake further study having already acquired and enhanced the necessary learning skills
      • Provide clear and accurate information
        • Communicate complex information to a qualified scientific partner
      • Have a rigorous scientific approach
        • Solve simple problems in the context of physics by identifying their basic aspects and by using both appropriate theoretical and experimental methods

      UE's Learning outcomes

Meaning and use of different mathematical tools and techniques used in the other lectures of the  chemistry student programme

      UE Content

      see S-CHIM-506 and S-PHYS-807
Analysis: functions of one and several variables. Integrals of one variable and different types of multiple integrals. . Introduction to matrix calculus (elementary algebra, determinant, inverse, transpose, ...) and applications of matrix calculus: linear applications, reference system changes, linear algebraic equation systems, eigenvalue equations, diagonalization. Sequences and series; definition, convergence criteria, power series. Representation of a function by a series (Taylor series).
