      Objectives of general skills

      • Mobilise a structured set of scientific knowledge and skills and specialised techniques in order to carry out mechanical engineering missions, using their expertise and adaptability.
        • Master and appropriately mobilise knowledge, models, methods and techniques specific to mechanical engineering.
      • Communicate and exchange information in a structured way - orally, graphically and in writing, in French and in one or more other languages - scientifically, culturally, technically and interpersonally, by adapting to the intended purpose and the relevant public.
        • Argue to and persuade clients, colleagues, teachers and boards, both orally and in writing.

      UE's Learning outcomes

      Establish links between structure and mechanical, physical and chemical properties of the principal metal alloys, justify their practical applications;
      propose and/or justify the use of a heat treatment in order to modify the mechanical properties of the studied metal alloys.

      The aim is to give to the students the necessary informations to understand the metallography and the physical metallurgy applied to metal alloys (steels, cast iron, cast and wrought aluminium alloys, titanium alloys). The improvement of the mechanical properties by various heat treatments is also studied.

      UE Content

      Application in the mechanical field : ferrous alloys (Fe-C diagram), Steels : Structures and properties, heat treatments, isothermal and anisothermal heat treatments, superficial treatments, wrought aluminium alloys, titanium alloys ; Structural alloys : cast iron (grey, white), cast aluminium alloys ; Application in case of corrosion :  stainless steels and corrosion; refractory steels and alloys, aluminium alloys.
