This mechanical design project is an individual exercise requiring the synthesis and application of drawing and CAD, manufacturing technology, and machine design. The specifications of the project are original for every student, every year. Some lectures are organized in order to clarify the design methodology and the key role of drawing for design.

Evaluation by a panel (members of the department of mechanical engineering plus, as appropriate, in an advisory capacity, industry stakeholders) after presentation and oral defense of the project. The oral defence lasts approximatively 25 minutes: 15 minutes maximum for the presentation, about 10 minutes for questions and answers. On the Wednesday preceding the first day of the session, at noon (12AM) at the latest, every student provides a folder including: one single copy of the scale drawings of the whole mechanical system that has been designed, with sections necessary to define the elements of assemblies for which a complete nomenclature should be prepared; dimensions must not be indicated on these plans, unless specifically requested. A list of drawings will be included in the attached report writing; two copies of a report containing the specifications, the state-of-the-art, the technical justification of the design choices (selection and design of machine elements, ...) and any other specific useful information. Following the presentation, the student provides a CD-ROM with all of SolidWorks files, the written report and the presentation (plus any other useful documents: any computer code, catalogs of machine components or machinery, references ...)
