Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

Learning Outcomes of UE

The student must understand the pathophysiology of different diseases and the utility of assessing biological markers.

Content of UE

The main objective of this activity is to improve the knowledge of the different fields of clinical biology. This activity is composed of a theoretical part (60h) and a practical laboratory work (50h). The theoretical part will cover the following topics:
1. Pathological processes
2. Basic principle in laboratory medicine
3. Biomarkers of Alzheimer disease
4. Iron metabolism and hemoglobinopathies
5. Hepatic and pancreatic function
6. Metabolism of carbohydrates
7. Renal function
8. Intestinale function
9. Endocrine function
10. Bone and mineral metabolism
11. Lipids and cardiovascular diseases
12. Redox imbalance
13. Immunoglobulins, inflammatory and tumor markers
14. Basic concepts in hematology

Prior Experience

Basic principles in biochemistry must be understood.

Type of Assessment for UE in Q2

  • Written examination
  • Practical test

Q2 UE Assessment Comments

The understanding of the course will be evaluated (written exam), a score out of 20 will be attributed (weighting factor 2/3). A score out of 20 will be attributed for the practical laboratory work (weighting factor 1/3 EXCEPT if the score of the written exam is less or equal to 10). A attendance of minimum 80% at practical laboratory work is mandatory.

Type of Assessment for UE in Q3
